Exploring Medical Language Wins Award, recognizing excellence demonstrated over time.
I’m delighted to share that Exploring Medical Language, Student-Directed Approach, 12th Edition, has received the 2026 Textbook & Academic Authors Association (TAA) William Holmes McGuffey Longevity Award.
When Winnie Starr and I began this book in 1983, I never imagined it would still be helping students learn over four decades later.
It has been a joy to see it grow, especially with the contributions of Danielle LaFleur Brooks Med, MA, and Dale Levinski, MD, in more recent editions.

I am deeply grateful to the faculty who have chosen the book, and to the more than two million students who have learned from it. One student captured what we always hoped to achieve:
“I have never enjoyed learning so much; I am dreading coming to the end of the book.”
My sincere thanks to Elsevier for their support and nomination. This recognition means a great deal to me.
Myrna LaFleur Brooks
