Video: Anatomical Directional Terms

Anatomical directional terms describe the relationship of one part of the body to another.

To review anatomical directional terms, watch this 4-minute video.

The directional terms are based on the anatomical position:Anatomical Directional Terms

  • body erect
  • palm of hands forward
  • thumbs away from the body
  • feet slightly apart

Hint: To prevent wrong-sided errors (mistaking the right side for the left side and visa versa) remember when facing the patient your right and left are the opposite of the patients right and left.
